During the ongoing xBlockchain Summit, the Pundi X (NPXS) project, a leading global developer of blockchain-powered devices, announced the world’s first blockchain-enabled Android smartphone, the XPhone. Pundi X’s XPhone performed the first ever blockchain phone call.
The xBlockchain Summit held at the Inaya Putri Bali, was organized with the purpose of gathering over 70 speakers that are leaders in the world of blockchain technology from 30 different countries to discuss the potential of blockchain technologies.
Pundi X has already developed blockchain-powered Point of Sale (PoS) devices that use cryptocurrency as a payment option for crypto users and merchants. At the Ultra Taiwan 2018 event Pundi X’s XPASS card, similar to a metrocard that allows users to conduct transactions, were issued to participants of the Ultra Taiwan 2018 event.
Pundi X announced via Medium that they are ready to launch the blockchain-based XPhone. The new phone won’t be tied a specific carrier, and instead will use Pundi X’s Function X blockchain.
The article commented about the Function X decentralized solution:
“… it runs on another Pundi X invention, one which holds even more potential: the Function X blockchain. We’ve developed our own chain which we believe will answer many of the challenges facing the many blockchain platforms today by increasing its scale, ability to publish DApps and achieve true decentralization. It will also revolutionize the way we transmit data of all kinds: giving rise to a truly decentralized internet.”
XPhone will be launched with Android 9.0 pie and will allow users and developers to switch seamlessly between android and Function X platform. The release date is set for Q2 of 2019.
