Tron founder, Justin Sun and his freshly acquired peer-to-peer file sharing company BitTorrent, made the announcement that uTorrent Web has broken the record of 1 million daily active users on October 4, 2018.
On the official Twitter account for Sun, he tweeted out:
“µTorrent Web already surpassed 1,000,000 daily active users! This new product officially launched a month ago offers a #streaming and torrenting experience. “
BitTorrent also tweeted the announcement:
“Proud to announce that our Web-based torrent #streaming client, µTorrent Web, surpassed 1,000,000 daily active users. If you’re waiting for a BitTorrent Web, rest assured that it’s coming soon!”
Tron and BitTorrent have had a tumultuous history with each other. Originally starting out as hints and rumors back in 2017, the Tron Foundation would eventually acquire BitTorrent in June of 2018. The time between and even after has seen its fair share of drama, with Justin Sun suing BitTorrent over the violation of ‘no shop clause’ for which Sun pleaded the court to issue a restraining order against the company, as BitTorrent was blocked from negotiating with potential buyer. After the company was acquired, BitTorrent saw a loss of many senior level employees with citations of differing visions and management techniques.
Despite the rocky relationship, this news is another drop in the bucket as Tron and Sun pursue their dreams of a decentralized internet.
